Care and repair

Every MY BOB piece carries a story, and stories deserve to last. Be it a Panama hat, a macramé bracelet, or a raffia bag, every MY BOB piece can be cared for, repaired, and given new life

Macramé

Macramé is a light yet sturdy material, and can be machine washed. We'd suggest a 30°C cycle and placing it inside a laundry net, just to keep the threads safe from catching in the drum. A light hand with the detergent will also help keep its colours looking fresh.

Our MY BOB keyrings are a little different, thanks to their steel ring, so we recommend hand washing these instead. A bit of soapy water and a soft brush will do the job nicely, just be gentle as you go.

Panama hats

This hat is the result of genuine Panama straw, entirely handwoven over a process that can span several weeks to a month.

Panama straw loves dry, sunny days, so a little rain can leave marks or weaken the fibres over time. If it does get wet, simply wipe it with a dry cloth and let it air dry naturally, away from heat. The same goes for storage, avoid very dry or hot spaces, and give the fibres a little moisturising cream twice a year to keep them supple and happy.

A soft bristle brush is all you need for everyday dusting. For stubborn marks, a cloth dipped in lemon water and mild soap works well, with a pinch of salt for oil stains. For anything more persistent, a gentle paste of talc and hydrogen peroxide, left briefly before wiping clean, should do the trick.

Felt hats

The first thing to know when caring for your hat is how to store it properly. The most important rule to follow is to rest it upside down on its crown, making sure the brim doesn't touch anything.
For the best possible protection, store your hat in a hatbox. Alternatively, hanging it on a coat rack or wall is both practical and decorative, adding a lovely touch to your living room or entrance.

We recommend cleaning your felt hat with a soft bristle brush, always using gentle, clockwise movements. Dry it with a clean cloth or sponge, then leave it to air dry at room temperature.

If your felt or wool hat warped, gently reshape it by hand and fill it with white tissue paper to help it hold its form while it dries. Once dry, brush it to restore its finish.
